Who tells the truth? Who is my ally?
In a time of political violence driven by polarised narratives, this is the truth is an autotheoretical and anti-sanity choreography that holds opposing truths without resolving them.
Central to this is the truth is the Opposite Practice, a methodology that Thalia has been developing since their first year at SNDO. What began as the simple directive to "do the opposite of whatever you perceive" has evolved into a layered investigation into the hierarchy of perception, personal bias and the instability of interpretation. Rather than seeking resolution, it creates conditions in which multiple realities can coexist and provides a gateway for connecting through disconnection.
What allows us to be imaginative enough to inhabit another person's perspective, even in solitude?
Cast through an open call and created over a six-week process, this is the truth brings together eleven performers who compete, collaborate and unravel in their attempts to convince the audience that their truth is the real truth. As alliances shift and certainties fracture, they voice their navigational thoughts and insist upon the validity of their own perceptions, drawing the audience through rage at the dismissal of certain voices as irrational or subjective, grief at the loss of stable meanings, and humour in witnessing the absurdity of the social structures we depend upon unravel before our eyes.
